Some of you might know about our recent trip to visit our location in Honduras. Some of you might know about the little trip we took to the local barber shop. Josh got a straight razor shave, and I got a hair cut. The beard was off limits despite the pressure to get rid of it. My wife thinks it's sexy! Haha!
I bring up our manly spa visit to remind all of us of Day 7 in Genesis 2:1-3
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
In today's world, if you're a minute late you're old news. Information flies at us so fast I don't even think we absorb all of the information. In our zombieish comma, we flip through emails and social media posts. If you were to compile a list of multiple choice questions of the information one person just "read" on their phones, I bet you they couldn't score a 100%.
Time.com says, "A study recently released by Deloitte found that Americans collectively check their smartphones upwards of 8 billion times per day."
8 billion times in a day!! Wow! That's crazy, right?! There's a reason God talks about rest in Genesis 2. If we keep going: absorbing information, working hard, and never sleeping, we'll eventually loose sight of God's plan for our lives. We'll tire which will cause us to miss a deadline, forget to place an order, or show up late to an important meeting.
I have a hard time with this. As much as I tell myself to relax, I feel the pressure of the world telling me:
If I rest... you'll fall behind
If I rest... you'll never catch up on emails
If I rest... the organization will fail
If I rest... who will update everyone about the ministry.
God's way and the way the world operate differ. Yes, we need to be proactive about sharing God's Word, but God doesn't want us to exhaust ourselves to the point that we don't wear down and forget about His mission that he wants us to carry out: Matthew 28:19 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...
At Fully Packed Adventure Ministries this is what we want to offer: Get outdoors, relax, restore, and fill yourself with the spirit of the Lord, so you're prepared to hit the ground running as you enter back into the grind of the world.
Our challenge to you is to take a minute and relax. Enjoy family, take some time to sit in a hammock and read His word, spend time with a good friend over coffee or a meal. Find a way to rest and restore! Remember what Jesus says in Matthew 11:28
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Thanks and God Bless!
