Over the past 2 weeks we've talked about preparing for ministry: Ready, Set, GO and Chasing Rabbits. These posts are insights into doing ministry, but this week we want to reaffirm our call of duty:
“Every Single believer is called to do ministry! Ministry is not the exclusive domain of the clergy, but the privilege and calling of all believers.” - A Better Way by Dale Losch
I love this saying. It's simple but powerful: Every single believer is called to do ministry! Everyone of us, not just some, but ALL Christ followers.
1 Corinthians 1:17
"Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel..."
When I share the above statement, I follow it up with 1 question: What is your ministry? This is where the process of discipleship begins. Exploring God, finding out what He has in store of us, and doing His ministry where life happens. For some it's right in front of them: work, school, volunteering, etc. and for others it's a call to abandon everything they have and to go do ministry around the globe.
The glorious part, is finding out what His ministry looks like in our lives. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 sums it up best:
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
I, by no means, am qualified to do ministry according to the worlds standards. But God chose me, the foolish, to shame the wise. He is using me to spread His Word and further His kingdom.
The key is that I'm allowing Christ to use me. I have abandoned living a life for myself and jumped in the passengers seat so as to allow Christ to drive His ministry in my life. And It has been an amazing Journey!!
