"I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen."  -Ernest Hemingway

Do you listen?  Be honest!  What was your last conversation?  Did you truly listen to what the person was telling you or were you just a warm body sitting there for them to spew words at?

Over the years working with volunteers I developed a Volunteer Expectation sheet.  I didn't just want myself and my volunteers to be warm bodies, I expected them to truly listen to the people on the trips.
This lead me to develop the 3 L's.  This helped the volunteers better understand why we need to hold our answers until we truly listen to the person first aka get to know them.

The 3 L's

1. Listen: because you can't give advice if you don't know what they need help with.

2. Learn: its only through learning from what they are saying that we can truly begin to formulate how we can help.

3. Love: or share your wisdom and what you've learned from what they've been talking to you about.

Proverbs 18:13-17

“Answering before listening is both stupid and rude. A healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed? Wise men and women are always learning, always listening for fresh insights...”

God listens to us.  He listens to our prayers, concerns, wants, desires, and needs.  Then, he guides us so we can make an impact for His kingdom.

Being a Christ Follower is the same.  We need to listen to people's wants, desires, frustrations, concerns, etc. and direct them in a way to see His plan for their lives.  A plan to impact our world for His kingdom!  Answering before truly listening could send them down the wrong path or less effective path.

Let's close our mouths and truly open our ears this week!  You never know what you might hear!

Thanks and God Bless!
